While Coltrane has had a lengthy career in the entertainment industry, he gained notoriety in the eyes of a younger generation when he brought the beloved character of Hagrid to life in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the first film adaptation of J.K. “I just think it’s the end of an era. It’s 10 years of my life and my children have grown up during it, of course,” the actor shared in a confessional during the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special on HBO in 2021. “My children’s generation will show them to their children so you could be watching it in 50 years time, easy. I’ll not be here, sadly, but Hagrid will, yes.”
