The FBI and other law enforcement agencies on Sunday swarmed a “barricaded situation” at a US Army base just outside DC, according to military officials.
Fort Belvoir officials tweeted around 1 p.m. that its law enforcement officials, local authorities and the FBI’s Washington field office’s National Capital Response Squad responded “to a barricaded situation” Sunday morning at the base. No other details were released.
“The situation is ongoing, & we cannot comment further at this time,” the tweet stated, adding a few gates remained open and operational.
Fort Belvoir is about 20 miles from the nation’s capital in Fairfax County, Va., and is located on 8,800 acres of land along the Potomac River. The base serves as home to several Army command headquarters.
