President Biden was in good spirits Sunday as he emerged from COVID-19 isolation and left the White House to head to Delaware.
“I’m feeling great,” Biden, 79, who was first infected infected with the virus last month, said before he hopped on Marine One outside the White House.
The president, who caught a rebound case of the disease, tested negative on Saturday and Sunday, and his doctor gave him the green light to join First Lady Jill Biden in Delaware.
“He will return to public engagement and presidential travel,” Dr. Kevin O’Connor wrote.
Biden and his wife were expected to spend the day at vacation spot Rehoboth Beach.
The president tested positive for the coronavirus on July 21 and started taking Paxlovid, an anti-viral that is supposed to cut down on the chances of serious illness connected to the disease.
He originally cleared isolation several days later and returned to work at the West Wing, still wearing a mask when in close contact with others, after testing negative for the virus on July 26 and July 27.
But he caught COVID again on July 30 that pushed him back into quarantine, though he occasionally gave speeches outside from the White House balcony, including when al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed by US forces last week.
He kept testing positive during his second COVID bout until Saturday when he finally tested negative. His doctor said he would not permit Biden to return to normal traveling until he received a second negative test in a row.
While infected, Biden had a runny rose, cough, sore throat and body aches, but his vital signs remained normal, O’Connor said.
The Bidens are scheduled to meet with Kentucky families Monday after horrific flooding in the area killed dozens and caused extensive damage.
